Lloyds Tri-ing Time
On the 6th August, Lloyd completed the most gruelling London Triathlon ever undertaken! Wearing the costumes that he has became familiar with, Lloyd completed the 1500m swim in his deep-sea diver's suit, before donning his tweed suit complete with deerstalker, and mounting his Penny Farthing for the 40km bike ride and finally undertaking the 10km 'run' in his 100lb St George's suit of armour.
Taking just over 12 hours to complete the course, Lloyd gasped, "That was one of the most exhausting days I have ever had, and believe me there have been a few of them!
Lloyd's feat was all the more amazing as he had been rushed to hospital the previous week with a prolapsed disc in his back.
"The pain was agonising and I had to be given morphine to help relieve the pain. I was determined to complete as I was launching a new charity called Sport Fund."
"The funniest part of the race was when a steward refused to let me continue on the bike ride as he didn't think I was a competitor. I must admit I did look a bit odd riding a Penny Fathing complete with tweeds, deestalker and stick-on moustache, but this guy obviously thought I was on a Sunday morning constitutional! It was only the intervention of a rather embarrassed race official who confirmed that I was indeed a competitor meant that I could continue the event."
Lloyd was full of praise for the organiser's and the crowd, saying, the London Triathlon is a fantastic event and the support of the crowd, as I battled my way around the course, was overwhelming and brought me to tears. I would love to do it again, but next time perhaps in a rather more conventional style!
