Due to the lack of water between the two locations, and in his typical style, Lloyd undertook the challenge in a swimming pool on the back of an articulated lorry. The pool, designed and kindly supplied by leading swimming pool manufacturer Polypool, was approximately 10 x 6 and held over 4 tonnes of water and was situated on the back of an articulated lorry donated by Scania. There was a decked viewing area and a grassed area with table, parasol, deck chairs and even a barbeque. As well as swimming between destinations, members of the general public in cities along the route were able to see Lloyd in action through port holes or by mounting the trailer. Lloyd and the specially designed trailer made the 700 mile journey to the most northerly point of the UK after the launch on Wednesday 18th May. Then on Sunday 22 May at 10am (9am photo call), Lloyd began his gruelling challenge and set off on his journey South, passing through major cities including Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, London and Bristol. The challenge took nine days to complete and arrived in Lands End on 31 May after travelling a total of 1050 miles, accompanied by a support vehicle, donated by Saab. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
